Daniel Dubois branded 'embarrassing' after confronting Oleksandr Usyk
Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury for a second time in a decision victory but the Ukrainian boxer was soon presented with his next challenger as Daniel Dubois entered the ring
by Scott Trotter · The MirrorDaniel Dubois has been labelled 'embarrassing' after confronting Oleksandr Usyk in the ring following his victory over Tyson Fury.
Usyk defeated the Gypsy King for the second time as he earned a decision victory in Saudi Arabia. The Ukraine national prevailed by four rounds on all three judges scorecards to retain WBA, WBO and WBC belts.
The Cat was afforded little time to bask in his victory however as IBF heavyweight title-holder Dubois, who Usyk knocked out in 2023, crashed the party. Being interviewed in the ring during his celebrations Usyk soon found himself face to face with a possible contender for his titles.
Dubois placed himself opposite Usyk and delivered both a challenge and congratulations in a slightly awkward looking encounter. “I want my revenge," said Dubois after taking the microphone from the interviewer.
"I want my revenge Usyk! Well done tonight, well done. God bless. I want my revenge for the robbery last time. Let’s go, let’s go. Make it happen Frank!"
Usyk quickly asserted he was open to a rematch. He replied: "Your excellency, make the fight with Daniel Dubois. Thank you so much.
"I can do more. I’m ready to fight (Dubois), no problem. Next fight no problem. Now I want to go home and rest."
Viewers were less forgiving of Dubois' actions however. "Truly embarrassing, Daniel Dubois," said one fan on social media.
"The secondhand cringe/embarassment for Daniel Dubois in the ring tonight was David Brent levels," added another. "Embarrassing from Dubois, let Usyk have his moment and concentrate on your next fight with Parker."
Another user on X said: "Daniel Dubois leave the ring man, it's embarrassing."
Proper embarrassing from Dubois that, painful in fact," echoed another viewer. "Embarrassing from Dubois when he’s got a really hard fight coming up."
"Dubois is embarrassing he’s still got to fight Parker in February the plonker," highlighted another.
Dubois will indeed have to defend his IBF heavyweight world title against Joseph Parker on February 22. The pair will meet in a Riyadh Season event.
The 27-year-old Dubois was recognised as the IBF's interim-titlist when he beat Filip Hrgovic in June and was upgraded to world champion when Usyk committed to the bout with Fury. The British fighter has since defended his belt with victory over Anthony Joshua.
Parker, a former world champion, meanwhile has dispatched former WBC champion Deontay Wilder and outpointed Zhilei Zhang to win the WBO Interim title.
