by Oli Gamp · The MirrorPrince William could not hide his frustrations on Tuesday night as he watched his beloved Aston Villa lose to Monaco in the Champions League.
Unai Emery's men were beaten 1-0 by the Ligue 1 side as Wilfried Singo's early goal proved enough for all three points.
The Prince of Wales is a regular face at Villa games and was spotted at Monaco's Stade Louis II ground to watch the Villans in action, but was left disappointed as they suffered a frustrating defeat.
Villa dominated possession but couldn't find a way past Monaco, who were deserved winners, with Emery's side now dropping to ninth in the table.
William was a vocal presence in the stands as he was seen gesticulating furiously, waving his hands in the air. The Prince showed some tense body language and covered his mouth his hand as Villa slipped to a second defeat in the Champions League.
William has been a fan of Villa since he was a schoolboy after wanting to stand out from his friends that supported either Manchester United or Chelsea. He has followed the team closely since attending his first game in 2013. The 42-year-old has even paid visits to Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground and had conversations with boss Emery.
William recently enjoyed a trip to a pub in Birmingham New Street station with Aston Villa fans, where he reportedly revealed he has been using a secret user name to chat with supporters on fan forums.
One supporter told the The Athletic: "He said he keeps abreast of Villa gossip because he is on all the fans’ forums.
"He goes under different names and he posts on there because that’s how he gets the feeling of what’s going on and what’s the opinion."
Villa initially had a great start in their first Champions League campaign as they beat Young Boys 3-0 before a famous win over Bayern Munich. They then beat Bologna 2-0 before losing 1-0 to Club Brugge and then drew 0-0 to Juventus.
The Midlands outfit also battled to an impressive 3-2 win away at Red Bull Leipzig but now face a battle for automatic qualification to the knockout rounds after losing to Monaco.
