Newcastle legend Alan Shearer posted a series of X-rated tweets goading Liverpool after his beloved Magpies won the Carabao Cup.

Eddie Howe's men sealed a famous 2-1 win over the league leaders to lift their first piece of silverware for 70 years thanks to goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak - with Federico Chiesa pulling one back.

It was the first time Newcastle have won a trophy since the FA Cup in 1955 and iconic figure Shearer was in the stands at Wembley to witness it - with the former striker enjoying some boozy celebrations long into the night.

The Match of the Day pundit admitted he was "p****d" as he posted a series of jubilant tweets in the aftermath - teasing Liverpool in one of them by claiming Newcastle "smashed" Arne Slot's team.

His first tweet celebrated the performance of Newcastle's star man as he wrote: "Dan f***ing Big Man Burn," with black and white heart emojis.

Hours later he added: Toon Toon arrrmyyyyyyyyy. Ah man. Did the Geordies deserve that or what That was f***ing amazing."

He then poked fun at Liverpool as he continued celebrating their famous triumph, writing: "I know I’m p****d but... Liverpool are a great club and will win the league and have been brilliant this season but the Geordies absolutely smashed them today and deserved it."

Shearer had previously backed his club to overcome the Reds - correctly predicting the result with the exact scoreline.

"I'm predicting Newcastle to win 2-1, in normal time," the former striker said, speaking to Betfair. "How will I celebrate if Newcastle win? I'm due on a flight Monday morning, but I'm not sure I'll make it if Newcastle do win. I might have to cancel it until Tuesday morning!

"I've got several options for what to do and where to go if we win. If we don't win, then there's only one option, I'm going home! If we win, I'll be happy and emotional, because I've always said that I need and want to see this football club win a trophy in my lifetime. I'm 54 years of age, nearly 55, and I haven't seen us win a trophy.

"I was born in 1970, they won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup the year before I was born, so I need to see this club win a trophy at some stage!"
