Man City star slammed for role in Nottingham Forest winner after huge Champions League blow

Nottingham Forest claimed a famous 1-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday thanks to Callum Hudson-Odoi's winner, which Ederson should have saved after watching it fly in at his near post

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been slammed by Ally McCoist for his poor mistake to allow Callum Hudson-Odoi's winner to creep in at his near post in their 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.

Ederson has come under fire at various points this season over his performances in between the sticks amid City's turbulent campaign, having previously been axed by boss Pep Guardiola for Stefan Ortega in December.

And the Brazilian - who was once seen as one of the world's best keepers - risked the wrath of Guardiola again after being beaten too easily by Hudson-Odoi. It proved to be the only goal of the game and helped Forest go four points clear of their rivals, with City now hanging onto a place in the Champions League.

The former Chelsea winger had the freedom of the City Ground pitch to run at left-back Josko Gvardiol, who stood his ground and did not put a challenge in, before he flashed an effort at goal - which Ederson watched fly past his hand and into the net.

And McCoist was particularly critical of the 31-year-old after the embarrassing moment, with the former Rangers boss insisting he "can't get beaten there".

"I'm not sure the goalkeeper covers himself in glory there," he said on commentary duty for TNT Sports. "Callum Hudson-Odoi attacks the full back and gets the finish inside the near post. The keeper can't get beaten there."

Some fans were left stunned by the gaffe on social media, as they said his goalkeeping was "horrible" and that City would not be able to progress as a club until he was sold.

McCoist said Ederson "cannot be beaten there" after Hudson-Odoi found the net at the near post

One wrote: "Ederson you can’t be beaten at the near post like that ffs," as a second user wrote: "The club cannot progress until Ederson is replaced. Stop putting him in your dream XI for next season."

A third fan added: "The type of goal you just can’t concede as a ‘keeper. Stunning save earlier in the half by Ederson but that is horrible. Should have been a simple save."

Others compared him with his Brazilian compatriot Alisson, insisting the mistake showed the Liverpol goalkeeper was the superior shot-stopper.

"Some people think Ederson is better than Alisson. Embarrassing," a supporter wrote, while another post said: "Difference between Alisson and Ederson right there."
