Noel Gallagher makes Liverpool vs Man City prediction and surprising Mohamed Salah wish

Manchester City face Liverpool on Sunday in a clash with huge implications on this season's Premier League title race, and celebrity fan Noel Gallagher has given his prediction

Music icon Noel Gallagher has tipped his beloved Manchester City to break their Anfield hoodoo on Sunday - and even wants them to keep facing Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Premier League champions City have remarkably lost five games in a row under Pep Guardiola, severely denting their hopes of winning a fifth successive title. The Citizens will face Feyenoord at home in the Champions League on Tuesday before Sunday's huge game against Liverpool.

The hosts on Merseyside would go 11 points clear of City with a victory, and although there'd still be 24 games to go, even Guardiola admits that his side can't afford to lose. Gallagher isn't exactly feeling confident about City's chances but reckons their season has been so 'perverse' they could well win.

Asked by talkSPORT what he expects from the game, the Oasis songwriter replied: "Nothing. We never win at Anfield. The season has been so perverse, we'll get beat tonight (against Feyenoord) then win on Sunday.

"I don't know what we're going to get from City now. They looked relaxed and happy and then that happens. I'm not sure what we'll get tonight and we've got to suck it up."

Gallagher credits Liverpool for turning City into the title-winning machine they've been throughout Guardiola's reign and would take a draw against Arne Slot's current table toppers. "They have turned into what we also are which is very consistent," he added. "The game is going to be great, City have got a point to prove, Liverpool if they beat us will think they've got half a hand on it.

"What I will say is we are very good at chasing. When it turns, we can sit in there. 11 points, is it insurmountable? There is a lot to play for but I'm not heading there expected to win, I'd take a draw."

Gallagher was then asked about the future of Liverpool forward Salah, who revealed over the weekend that he's yet to be offered a new contract ahead of his current deal expiring next June. The Egyptian, who scored twice in Sunday's 3-2 win away to Southampton, is often a thorn in City's side, yet Gallagher doesn't want him to leave.

"I'd like to see him stay. He is one of the best players we've ever seen in the Premier League," the 57-year-old declared. "I think it is brinkmanship from both of them. I think he will stay. He'd be made to leave, where is he going to go, Saudi? I think he'll stay but you never can tell."
