Man Utd prepare fresh Chido Obi-Martin contract - despite only arriving last month
Former Arsenal prospect Chido Obi-Martin officially joined Manchester United in October, but the Denmark Under-18 star is already on the verge of a new deal at Old Trafford
by Tom Victor · The MirrorManchester United youngster Chido Obi-Martin has made enough of an early impact to find himself on the cusp of a new contract, it has been claimed.
The teenage striker moved to Old Trafford after a spell in Arsenal's academy, where he scored for fun for the Gunners' Under-18 side and made his Premier League 2 debut at the age of just 15. The London side are understood to have offered him a pathway to a senior contract, but he opted for United after a charm offensive from the Red Devils and his move was ratified in October.
Obi-Martin scored a hat-trick on his first start for United's Under-18s, bagging three inside 15 minutes against Nottingham Forest. He also netted against Everton on November 9, and has averaged a goal every 43 minutes for his new employers.
The Danish-born frontman turns 17 on Friday, leaving him eligible for a first professional contract. And United look as though they don't want to waste any time.
According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, United will tie Obi-Martin down to a professional deal on his birthday. The publication claims United have confirmed the plans for the player, who has been on a scholarship contract so far.
"Very happy to sign with this amazing club, time to focus and achieve all my dreams," Obi-Martin wrote on Instagram after his initial United switch was confirmed. "Thanks to everyone who has helped me get this far."
In the lead-up to the big day, he also found the net in the Under-18 Premier League Cup. United's youngsters claimed a 3-0 victory over Leeds United, with Jaydan Kamason and James Scanlon also on target.

Obi-Martin has represented England at age group level, but is also eligible for Denmark and Nigeria. He was in action for Denmark's Under-18s in the most recent international break, finding the net in a defeat against Finland.
The teenager was also on the bench for United's Under-19 side for their UEFA Youth League game against AZ on Tuesday. He will have to wait for his first taste of European action, though, with the Dutch side claiming a 2-1 lead in the first leg of their knockout clash.
United's Under-18 side boast a 100 percent record in the league this term, scoring 43 goals and conceding just four. Obi-Martin's former club Arsenal haven't found things quite as easy in the south, taking just 10 points from their nine matches.
Adam Lawrence's UEFA Youth League squad have already come through a second-round meeting with Lithuanian side Zalgiris, and will play the second leg of their AZ clash at Old Trafford. If they're able to overturn their first leg deficit, they'll move into the round of 32 where 10 domestic Under-18 champions will combine with 22 teams from the Champions League path - with four English representatives still in contention.
