Marco Silva believes Ruben Amorim is “more than ready” to manage Manchester United ahead of the Portuguese boss’s first Premier League match against Ipswich on Sunday.

Amorim penned a contract at Old Trafford until June 2027 following the sacking of Erik ten Hag last month. The 39-year-old had been in charge of Primeira Liga leaders Sporting Lisbon prior to his switch to Manchester.

Fulham manager Silva supported his fellow Portugal national, saying: “He’s a very good manager and it’s a great challenge for him and he’s more than ready for the challenge.

“I’ve spoken to him and what I wish for him is always the best.”

Fulham could make it three successive wins in the Premier League with a victory over Wolves at Craven Cottage on Saturday. The Cottagers, who beat Crystal Palace and Brentford in their last two matches, sit one point off the top four in seventh.

Silva wants his side to keep up their positive form, adding: “The challenge for us is to get three in a row, we need to react after international break. After the last international break, the reaction in terms of results was not the best and we need to react in a different way and that’s the challenge for us tomorrow to face it, we want the three points.”

Wolves have showed signs of turning their fortunes around after they picked up their first win of the season in their 2-0 victory over Southampton last time out. Gary O’Neil’s side are unbeaten in their last three as they continue their bid for survival in west London this weekend.

Silva believes it is only a matter of time for Wolves to win more matches.

He said: “If you look at their results, it’s only in their first match of the season where they didn’t score (a 2-0 defeat by Arsenal ).”

“It’s a matter of time for them to keep clean sheets and not concede goals, it’s a matter of time for them to win games and that’s what happened in the last game.

“They won because they didn’t concede and the games before they drew the game. They’re a team who in my opinion is quality, the midfield players, the attack players have individual quality.”
