Joshua Kimmich has revealed that he has extended his stay with Bayern Munich as he claimed he will find more success with the club than anywhere else.

The Germany international was set to see his contract expire and had been linked to a whole host of clubs, including Premier League sides Arsenal and Newcastle United. Kimmich has agreed a new deal until 2029 at the Allianz Stadium after his future had been much speculated upon.

The 30-year-old has remained an important part of Vincent Kompany's side this season and helped lead the side to the quarter-final of the Champions League and to an eight-point advantage atop the Bundesliga table. The versatile star has already played 39 times this season and is rarely out of his Belgian coach's starting lineup.

Kimmich joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2015 and remains committed to the club as a means of achieving his remaining goals in the sport. The veteran praised his team-mates and the club environment surrounding him, as the reason for that.

"At FC Bayern, I have the best environment to achieve my sporting goals," he said. "I made my decision based on that. There's currently no better package of teammates, coaching staff, and club environment for me to achieve maximum success. I feel comfortable here, and I'm not finished yet."

The club seem equally happy to have secured Kimmich's signature. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said: "We are delighted that Joshua Kimmich is continuing his career at FC Bayern.

"He's someone who always leads the way, whether at the club or as DFB captain. His hunger is undiminished, as was evident again in the Champions League round of 16. His determination and commitment embody what FC Bayern stands for. He should build a bridge between our current generation and a new era."

Max Eberl, the club's sporting director added: "Mentalism and identity – that's what Joshua Kimmich stands for. He has internalized the FC Bayern DNA for years and embodies it both on and off the pitch. Where others stop, he's just getting started. We're delighted that he'll continue to lead our team."

Christoph Freund added: "Everyone can see how passionate Joshua Kimmich is about the game and his club, every minute of the game. He leads the way as a leader, pushes forward, and provides impetus: a driving force that will tirelessly drive FC Bayern forward in the future."

Kimmich follows in the footsteps of Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies in extending their contracts with Bayern.
