Arne Slot hints at Mo Salah's big Liverpool problem after response to being dropped

Mo Salah hasn't scored in his last six games for Liverpool and was dropped by Arne Slot when the Reds played Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday

Arne Slot has suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure from Liverpool is the reason behind Mo Salah's struggles. Salah, who signed a bumper new contract last season, is enduring a six-game goal drought and was dropped from the Reds' starting line-up by Slot for their clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday.

The Egyptian then appeared to remove all references to Liverpool from his bios on social media platforms X and Instagram. Now Slot has addressed his ailing form, suggesting that Alexander Arnold's move to Real Madrid is a contributing factor.

"It has been a difficult moment for all of us," Slot told a press conference. "No one is used to losing, for all the players that have played here for so many years, and even for the new players as well because we started the season with seven wins.

"Maybe his whole Liverpool player he played with Trent, so it could (be that). But he's been in promising positions often enough to score goals, maybe with Trent even more.

"But in general, if you have quite a few changes in the summer you have to find new connections. Mo is no exception to this."

Salah, 33, has only scored one goal from open play in the Premier League this season. That came on the opening night, as Liverpool survived a scare to beat Bournemouth 4-2.

His woes in front of goal were apparent during the Reds' four-game losing streak which came to an end in Frankfurt. Salah notably missed big chances to equalise against both Chelsea and Manchester United during that run.

As Liverpool chased a goal in the dying embers of last Sunday's 2-1 loss at home to United, Slot subbed the 33-year-old off. Salah was then absent from his starting XI on Wednesday, as the Reds got back to winning ways in the Champions League.

The winger was given 18 minutes as a second-half substitute, with Liverpool already 5-1 up. Unfortunately for Salah, he couldn't end his goal drought.

Fans noticed on Thursday that the 33-year-old had made changes to his social media. Liverpool are no longer tagged in his X and Instagram bios while he also changed his two profile pictures to ones without him wearing the club's shirt.

Salah will be hoping to return to the starting line-up when the Reds travel to face Brentford at 8pm on Saturday. A win would be their first in the Premier League for over a month and help bridge the gap between the reigning champions and this season's early pacesetters, Arsenal.
