Their next challenge comes against Bologna, a team experiencing its inaugural season in the Champions League. While Bologna likely hoped for a better showing, their journey in Europe's premier competition is nearing its conclusion.
The Italian side has managed just two points across six matches and holds the dubious distinction of being the lowest-scoring team, with only one goal to their name. Despite this, Bologna's form has seen some improvement, with just one defeat in all competitions since late November.
For Borussia Dortmund, their earlier successes in the Champions League have been crucial. Without those points, securing qualification would have been far more challenging given their current form. BVB now require just one more victory to secure their spot and avoid any risk of elimination.
The past few weeks have been particularly challenging for Nuri Sahin and his squad. Dortmund's struggles on the road have persisted throughout the season, but a 4-2 loss to Holstein Kiel was unexpected.
A home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen was surprising but not entirely shocking. The situation worsened with a goalless loss to Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend. As they prepare to face Bologna, it will be interesting to see how the odds stack up.
