David Moyes can't resist Liverpool dig as Reds knocked out of Champions League
Everton will take on Liverpool in the Premier League in April and manager David Moyes was asked about their rivals ahead of the Reds' Champions League elimination
by Tom Victor · The MirrorEverton manager David Moyes joked that he didn't know rivals Liverpool were playing on Tuesday night as he headed to the theatre instead.
Moyes was in charge at Goodison Park in February as the first Merseyside Derby of the season ended all-square. James Tarkowski's late goal that day threatened to derail Liverpool's title bid, but Arne Slot's side have since extended their lead at the top.
Liverpool are still in with a shot at winning two trophies this season, taking on Newcastle in Sunday's Carabao Cup final before resuming their league campaign in April. They won't be adding a Champions League crown, though, having lost on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
Moyes was at the Liverpool Empire Theatre as a bust was unveiled in honour of the late Everton owner Bill Kenwright. The tribute was followed by a performance of Blood Brothers, with Moyes speaking to the media before taking his seat.
“That’s one way to avoid having to watch Liverpool tonight by being here to see Blood Brothers,” a BBC Liverpool reporter told Moyes. The manager gave a tongue-in-cheek response, saying: “I didn’t know there was a game on tonight, is there?”
Moyes will no doubt watch the footage back as he prepares for an upcoming meeting with Liverpool. His team is due to travel to Anfield on April 2, just the other side of the international break.
Before that, they welcome West Ham to Goodison Park on Saturday. The reverse fixture ended goalless back in November, when Moyes' predecessor Sean Dyche was still in the dugout.

Liverpool can afford to drop points between now and the end of the season after opening up a 15-point gap to closest challengers Arsenal. They will be after a big response following their European exit, with manager Slot pleased with the performance but not the result.
"It was the best game of football I was ever involved in," the Dutchman told Amazon Prime. "Incredible performance, especially compared to last week.
"First 20/25 minutes, we were all over them, created chance after chance and all of a sudden we were 1-0 down. Probably it was almost the opposite, maybe we ran out of luck because the margins were so small tonight.
"After 90 minutes it felt we deserved more than being 1-0 down. I was waiting for us to score. I don't think the second half, apart from the last five minutes, when they threatened us once or twice. We played the perfect game except from scoring goals, it was the same for PSG last week when they played the perfect game and didn't score and it happened to us today."
