Ange Postecoglou SACKED by Nottingham Forest just minutes after heavy Chelsea loss
Ange Postecoglou has had a nightmare time at the City Ground with owner Evangelos Marinakis pulling the plug following their 3-0 loss vs Chelsea.
by Amie Wilson · The MirrorNottingham Forest have sacked manager Ange Postecoglou to end his eight-game nightmare spell in charge. The brutal decision comes after their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime.
The Australian, 60, found himself under pressure after failing to win his first seven matches in in the dugout. Forest have already been linked with possible replacements - with Sean Dyche's name mentioned.
Despite having chances throughout the game, second-half goals from Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto and Chelsea captain Reece James saw Forest fall to a 3-0 home loss against the Blues. Postecoglou, who was the only manager in Forest history to go winless in his first eight games, was appointed by the club this season after Nuno Espirito Santo also parted ways with the Midlands club.
In a statement, the club said: "Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.
"The Club will make no further comment at this time."
The decision comes after the seat of club owner Evangelos Marinakis was shown as empty with just 67 minutes on the clock. At the time, Forest were 2-0 down.
It was that moment that made the decision inevitable, according to TNT pundit Peter Crouch. "I think the decision was made as soon as he [the chairman] left his seat," he said after the news was announced.
"The empty seat spoke volumes. Myself and Glen (Hoddle) were discussing this off air.

"It was pretty obvious the decision was going to be made. The fact it has been made quite so soon... I thought he might have left the dust settle a couple of hours, but this chairman certainly doesn't mess about."
Postecoglou's sacking also comes less than 24 hours following his passionate defence of his record.
“I said last year [while in charge at Tottenham] in my second year I always win things, right? And what’s the key to that?" He said.
"That I’m there in my second year, because it takes a bit of time. But the story always ends the same: you leave me here, let me do my job, it’ll end the same … with a trophy.
"If I don’t and I’m removed, well, what can I do about it? I can’t win in this situation in terms of trying to convince people. You either see what you see or you don’t; either way it doesn’t affect me.”
