Tottenham turn attention to Chelsea star following second transfer snub in 24 hours
Tottenham hoped to sign Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan but the five-time England international is understood to have turned Spurs down, just as Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel did on Friday
by Nathan Ridley · The MirrorTottenham have turned their attention to Chelsea defender Axel Disasi after top target Fikayo Tomori rejected a move back to London.
Tomori, 27, has snubbed the chance to join Spurs, having spent the last four years with Italian giants AC Milan after leaving Chelsea in 2021. It's the second rejection that Tottenham have suffered in the past 24 hours, as Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel turned them down following face-to-face talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy in Germany on Friday.
The two clubs had agreed a £50million deal but Tel, who's also a target for Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa, decided against joining Spurs. That's exactly what five-time England international Tomori has done, according to Sky Sports, leading Spurs to focus on Disasi.
A report from the Mail says that the Chelsea centre-back was one of Tottenham's alternatives in case Tomori snubbed them. Now they're set to make an approach, with Villa and Wolves also holding an interest in Disasi, who signed a six-year contract at Chelsea in 2023 following his £38.5m move from Monaco.
Chelsea are willing to sell the 26-year-old before the winter transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday, with the Frenchman out of favour under Blues boss Enzo Maresca. Earlier this month, Chelsea recalled Trevoh Chalobah from what was supposed to be a season-long loan at Crystal Palace and he's already overtaken Disasi in the pecking order.
Spurs are looking to bolster their defence after Radu Dragusin picked up a knee injury against during Thursday's 3-0 win against Elfsborg in the Europa League. Dragusin, who Tottenham paid £26.7m to sign from Genoa last January, could now miss most of what's left of this season.
First-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, meanwhile, have endured injury-hit seasons. Boss Ange Postecoglou hinted that Spurs could sign a new centre-back when speaking ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash away to Brentford.

"Depending on the extent of Radu, it might be an area we need to look at and certainly this weekend we are exploring some options,' Postecoglou confirmed. "It's hard to tell. It's a knee, so we've got to let it settle down. There's always concern when there's a knee injury but we don't know the extent."
The Tottenham boss, who's looking to guide Spurs to first Premier League win in eight games, will be forced to put out a makeshift back four at Brentford. "He's [Dragusin] obviously not available for this weekend," Postecoglou added. "In terms of others, Djed Spence should be available for the weekend, Sergio Reguilon should be okay."
