The Emmet Mullins-trained horse suffered a fatal injury in his fall at the second-last fence during Friday's showpiece race.
A statement issued by Cheltenham on Friday afternoon said:"In our fifth race of the day, Corbetts Cross was immediately attended to by our veterinary professionals, but sadly sustained a fatal injury. Our heartfelt condolences are with his connections."
It was a sad note for the JP McManus team, who claimed victory in the Gold Cup as Inothewayurthinkin - not originally intended to take part in the race - claimed victory and scuppered Galopin Des Champs' hopes of a third successive triumph in the race.
