Marcus Rashford provided both of the assists for Marco Asensio's goals in Aston Villa's 2-1 win over Chelsea, but Unai Emery believes the on-loan Manchester United forward can do even more

Unai Emery wants Marcus Rashford to show consistency after he played a crucial role in Aston Villa’s win over Chelsea.

Villa came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday evening, with Rashford setting up both of Marco Asensio’s goals. The on-loan Manchester United forward now has three assists for Villa, after Ollie Watkins scored when his free-kick smashed the crossbar against Ipswich last weekend.

Before arriving at Villa Park, he had not played for United since December 12, but now appears to be finding his feet again. Emery was the driving force behind his acquisition in the January transfer window and is a huge fan of Rashford’s, yet he is refusing to get carried away by what he’s produced so far.

“We want to support him. Help him. Try to help him to feel comfortable here. Try to help him get confidence with us, try to be demanding with him. He is in this process,” the Villa boss said.

“Of course he played a fantastic 45 minutes. We now want to be consistent. Hopefully he is going to be important, like today, but then more and more and more. The most important [thing] for him is to try to be here with us and be confident and comfortable in a good atmosphere and this is my objective.”

Enzo Fernandez gave Chelsea the lead with a simple finish from Pedro Neto’s cross and Chelsea wasted some glorious chances to score more. Rashford came on at half-time for Jacob Ramsey and set up Asensio’s first with a well-timed run to reach a deep cross before crossing from a short corner routine for the Spaniard to fire a second underneath Chelsea keeper Filip Jorgensen to win it.

Asked by Sky Sports what Villa were doing to get the best out of Rashford, Emery said: "Support him, help him, try to make him feel comfortable here. Try to get confidence with us. Try to get him to work and play like us. Try to use the skill with the tactical side. Try to be demanding with him with our demands tactically and everything.

"He is in this process and of course he plays a fantastic 45 minutes and, really, this is the only thing we want to try and get from him, to be consistent through him in our squad. Hopefully he is going to be very important, like today, but more and more and more and the most important for him is to try and feel comfortable here, get confidence and be comfortable with us. This is my only objective."

The win moved Villa up to seventh place in the Premier League, a point behind Chelsea, although Newcastle can jump ahead once again when they place Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
