PSG boss Luis Enrique makes major Liverpool prediction ahead of Anfield trip
Paris Saint-Germain believes whoever prevails between his side and Liverpool will reach the Champions League final later this year such is the quality of player involved in the last-16 clash
by Scott Trotter, Chris McKenna · The MirrorPSG boss Luis Enrique believes the winner of his side’s clash with Liverpool will go all the way to the Champions League final.
That’s despite the fact they could still have to face holders Real Madrid before they could get to Munich in May for the decider. The French giants are trailing the Reds 1-0 in the last-16 tie despite a dominant performance at Parc des Princes last week.
The winners of Tuesday's clash at Anfield will face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the quarter-finals next month. Then it will be one of Real, Atletico Madrid or Arsenal lying in wait for the last four.
Enrique, who led Barcelona to the European Cup in 2015, said: “Over the course of two games we will see two of the best teams in Europe.
“Two contenders for the the final and whoever goes through tomorrow will go through to the final.”
Enrique will be hoping his side can create chances like they did last week in the first leg when only Alisson’s brilliant goalkeeping kept Liverpool in the tie. But it will be a different game at Anfield under the lights on what promises to be another special European night at the famous ground.
PSG attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia said: “It will be tough game, it will be a tough atmosphere at Liverpool but I know our fans are coming here and will have a big support.
“Most important is when you go to the field just concentrate on football. We try to do our best, it doesn’t matter if we play at Anfield or in Paris, our goal is to win.”
Arne Slot is keeping his approach consistent, despite the prize that is riding on the meeting. The Dutch coach will send his side out to earn a win, but warned that he did not expect to be under so much pressure in the first leg.
"We try to play every game [to] try to win – that's also what we tried to do last week," Slot said. "It wasn't our intention to be so low all the time. We wanted to have a different game than we played over there but sometimes the other teams, with the help of their fans, we both saw what happened. Tomorrow we want to play a different game but our intention is always the same. We're not going to go for a draw."
