Harry Kane netted another Bayern Munich hat-trick on Friday night

Harry Kane breaks Erling Haaland record with another Bayern Munich hat-trick

Harry Kane struck another hat-trick for Bayern Munich as they saw off Augsburg and his treble means he bought up his half century quicker than any player in Bundesliga history

Harry Kane has become the fastest player ever to hit 50 Bundesliga goals - surpassing the record once held by Erling Haaland.

The Englishman scored a hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Augsburg on Friday - making it his seventh treble since making the move to Germany last season. It also means Kane has now brought up his half century in just 43 Bundesliga games.

That is seven fewer than Haaland managed for Borussia Dortmund with the Norwegian quickly hitting the ground running when he made the switch to Germany in January 2020.

Kane now has got 61 goals in 61 matches across all competitions for Bayern as he seeks to end his long trophy drought. The Bavarians though have begun the season well and their latest win has seen them open up an eight point lead at the top having played before their rivals.

The striker saw his hopes of breaking more Premier League goalscoring records ended, at least temporarily, when he chose to make the switch from Tottenham to Bayern. It means closing in on Alan Shearer's all-time record will have to wait for a possible return to England.

Kane left the top flight having scored 213 times - putting him second on the list. Shearer's haul, which has stood top for much of history, stands at 260.

One record Kane missed out on in his debut season was breaking Robert Lewandowski's haul of 41 goals in a single Bundesliga season. He hit the figure in 2020/21 with the Englishman falling five short last term. This season though he's primed for another attempt at beating the Pole.

His return to Bayern came after an international break that saw him questioned. Kane was left on the bench for the recent win over Greece with Ollie Watkins preferred in attack. He was restored to the starting XI days later against the Republic of Ireland, however some have questioned whether he's being phased out at international level.

Kane has insisted though, despite being north of 30, that he's playing as well was ever. He said: "There's sometimes a perception when you get into your thirties that you're coming to an end. But for me personally I'm performing at the highest level I've ever performed and feel as good as I've ever felt so it's about taking in the moment."
