Alexander Isak to Arsenal transfer update issued after Newcastle United Carabao Cup win

Arsenal have been handed an Alexander Isak transfer update in their search for attacking reinforcements this summer.

The Gunners are currently facing a shortage of attacking options, which has resulted in them falling 12 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. Mikel Arteta's squad are missing Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz due to long-term injuries.

Arsenal have had to resort to using midfielder Mikel Merino as an emergency striker. The Spanish player managed to score twice against Leicester City on his debut in this role last month but has only found the back of the net twice since then.

One striker who has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium is Isak, who continues to impress for Eddie Howe's side. The Sweden international netted during Newcastle's Carabao Cup win over Liverpool on Sunday, proving that he can perform on the biggest stage.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Magpies currently have no plans to let Isak go. He admits that things could change though.

"No changes, Newcastle insist on keeping Isak as they see him as a crucial player for the project," he said in his latest newsletter for GiveMeSport.

"But again, let's keep the story open because top clubs will come with big proposals for sure... and we will see what Newcastle will decide to do."

The player himself appeared to drop a hint about his future in the build-up to Sunday's final. Suggested that he can fulfil his ambitions at St James' Park, the forward told our sister title Chronicle Live: "That's why I came here. As I have said, I am not really thinking about the summer yet.

"I have said many times that I don't really think too much about my future. I have said many times I am happy here and we are competing for titles which is what you want as a football player. We have been to one final and now we are in another one."
