Arsenal have perfect transfer gift waiting for Viktor Gyokeres if they secure £60m deal
by Mark Wakefield · football.londonArsenal continue to be linked with a swoop for in-demand Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners have been credited with an interest in signing the Sweden international ever since January this year, while the rumours do not seem to be going away anytime soon.
Gyokeres has once again been in fine form for Sporting this season - scoring 23 goals across just 18 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese club.
The 26-year-old also found the back of the net 43 times in 50 appearances for Sporting last season, which initially sparked-up rumours of a potential big-money transfer to the Premier League and Arsenal in particular.
Arsenal were widely tipped to sign a striker last summer. They opted against bringing in that much-talked-about centre-forward, though, and it remains to be seen if that stance will change heading towards the January transfer window and beyond.
Manchester United have also been heavily linked with a move for Gyokeres in recent weeks, mainly owing to the recent arrival of Ruben Amorim - from Sporting - as their new head coach.
Reports have widely speculated that Gyokeres could also be allowed to depart Sporting next summer, with some suggestions that a fee worth £60million might be acceptable.
Should Arsenal decide to try and sign Gyokeres, it will raise the question of which squad number they would give the would-be new signing. As things stand, perhaps the most-likely option for the Sweden international would be the No.10 which was previously worn by Emile Smith Rowe before his move to Fulham in the summer.
The No.14 is also available for any new signings at Arsenal, having been vacated by Eddie Nketiah this summer too after his own transfer to Crystal Palace. That's also the case for the No.16, which was last worn by Rob Holding who also moved to Selhurst Park earlier this year.
