Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal transfer update as 'deadline' set amid £80m claim

Arsenal have been handed an update regarding their quest to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

The Gunners are continuing to be heavily linked with signing Sesko as the summer transfer window rolls on.

Talks have been underway between Arsenal and Leipzig for several weeks over a potential deal to sign Sesko - but it's thought that not much progress has been made towards bringing the striker to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with signing a new centre forward for many months, with Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres also a player of interest to Mikel Arteta's side.

Sesko scored 21 goals in 45 appearances for Leipzig last season and has been widely tipped to leave the Bundesliga outfit and, in turn, move to the Premier League this summer.

A fresh update has now emerged about Arsenal's interest in signing Sesko, which might point towards a resolution of the saga on the horizon.

A report in TEAMtalk has claimed that Arsenal have given themselves a deadline to finalise a deal for Sesko. It has been reported that a "mid-July" deadline has now been set by the Gunners which, if not met, will result in the club ending their interest and looking at alternative options.

Leipzig are reported to value Sesko at £80million, with the article going on to say that Arsenal are only willing to pay £60million for the Slovenia international. Other reports have claimed to provide updates as to what price tag Leipzig would demand for Sesko this summer, with Sport Bild in Germany reporting last month that it would take £75million to sign the striker.

It remains to be seen what Arsenal will have planned when it comes to their pursuit of Sesko this summer.

New sporting director Andrea Berta will be tasked with overseeing the negotiations for the potential deal and, if the report turns out to be accurate, then an outcome could emerge in the next couple of weeks.

Arsenal have until 7pm on Monday, September 1 to complete their transfer business this summer.
