Chelsea fire brutal Trent Alexander-Arnold dig after Liverpool exit confirmed

by · football.london

Chelsea appear to have poked fun at Trent Alexander-Arnold hours after the Liverpool player confirmed he will leave the club when this season ends. Alexander-Arnold announced his Anfield impending departure on Monday morning, a day after the Reds lost 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Their vice-captain started the match, but was substituted after the Blues took a two-goal lead.

He struggled with Noni Madueke during their time on the pitch, being dribbled past twice in quick succession at one stage. The Chelsea winger had the beating of his England international team-mate throughout, with the club highlighting a notable occasion when Madueke did so on social media.

They have posted a nine-second clip on X (formerly Twitter), which starts with Marc Cucurella playing a pass down the left sideline toward his teammate while being closed down by Mohamed Salah. Alexander-Arnold pushes up to pressure Madueke, but the forward dummies the ball and lets it run past both of them.

Madueke then skips past his marker and takes a touch in stride to keep it in play before driving into the opposition half as the home crowd roars in support to show its appreciation at the piece of skill. The clip which Chelsea shared then replays the moment in slow motion after zooming in on it.

"See yaaaaa!" the post says, punctuated by the waving hand emoji. Its timing also appears to be a, potentially, unintentional double entendre, coming five hours after Alexander-Arnold released a lengthy statement on the same platform and across social media to confirm his imminent exit.

Alexander-Arnold has only played against Tottenham Hotspur (19) more times than he has vs Chelsea during his career, thus far. Sunday was just the third time he has lost to the Blues in 17 matches.

It was his first at Stamford Bridge since a 1-0 defeat back in May 2018 - when Olivier Giroud scored the winner. The other was another one-goal reversal at a behind-closed-doors Anfield three years later when Mason Mount scored the decisive goal for Chelsea.
