Chelsea player ratings as Cole Palmer changes game but one better in Copenhagen victory
by Bobby Vincent · football.londonChelsea are through to the quarter-final stage of the Conference League after they overcame Copenhagen this evening at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca, as expected, made several changes to the Blues side that beat Leicester City over the weekend. It was a slow start from the hosts in west London, so much so it took them until two minutes into the second half to register a shot. Maresca made a couple of subs at half-time and it definitely upped the tempo for the hosts.
With the increase in tempo, Chelsea took the lead early in the second period when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored his third goal for the club. The Blues then gained some control after the goal and were more than happy to keep possession and try to tire their opponents out. And they were able to hold on to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.
Here, football.london's Chelsea correspondent Bobby Vincent rates the Blues players.
Filip Jorgensen - 6
Back in goal in place of Robert Sanchez, which means the Spaniard will probably start against Arsenal. The Dane didn't have much to do.
Trevoh Chalobah - 6
Did okay. A bit sloppy on the ball but the majority of them were.
Tosin Adarabioyo - 6
He did fine. Tosin is a very consistent performer - he is not always exceptional but is quite often above average for the Blues. That might not sound too kind but that is a compliment.
Benoit Badiashile - 5
Good to see him back out there again after returning last week. He looked a bit nervous to start with and gave away possession a couple of times. Improved in the second-half.
Josh Acheampong - 7
His first start since January 14. Inverting from left-back and there were a few times where he drove forward with the ball and showcased his power. A superb block on 14 minutes to stop Rodrigo Huescas' effort from close range. Amazed he was taken off at half-time.
Moises Caicedo - 7
All over the place - in a great way - as he always is. Interceptions and tackles; nothing changes from the Ecuadorian. Taken off with just over 10 minutes of normal time remaining.
Enzo Fernandez - 5
A really slow and sloppy start from Fernandez, who has been in such brilliant form recently. Subbed at half-time - presumably with Arsenal in mind.
Tyrique George - 6
Bright whenever he got the ball. He was injecting some much-needed speed and directness to the Chelsea attacks.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall - 8
Delighted for him that he got his goal in the second-half. He got a tad fortunate with how it came about but you could argue he made that luck with the sheer persistence he showed. A fine finish, too.
Jadon Sancho - 5
Maresca called him to the touchline around 20 or 25 minutes in to give him some advice. It didn't work, however, with Sancho very quiet once again for the Blues. Subbed on 65 minutes.
Pedro Neto - 5
Got in behind once in the first-half and then went down too easily wanting a penalty. Overall, a fairly quiet game by the Portuguese's standards. Though he played better in the second-half.
Subs
Cole Palmer (on for Fernandez 46') - 7
On at half-time. Whether or not having him on the pitch gave the Blues some much-needed confidence, who knows? Either way, he certainly made an impact.
Marc Cucurella (on for Acheampong 46') - 6
Also came on after the break. Did well and added more balance to the side in both defence and attack.
Christopher Nkunku (on for Sancho 65') - 6
Almost fed through on goal seconds after coming on but the ball from Palmer was intercepted. Bright in his cameo.
Reece James (on for Caicedo 79') - N/A
Nice to see him back out there after he missed Sunday's game through illness.
Genesis Antwi (on for Neto 90') - N/A
What a moment for the 17-year-old to make his senior debut.
