Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal latest - £60m deal, ‘progress’ claim, Viktor Gyokeres ‘agreement’

by · football.london

The transfer window seems to have burst into life for Arsenal, although the club are yet to officially complete any new signings so far.

The club are however on the verge of announcing the arrivals of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi and Brentford’s Christian Norgaard.

The priority for Mikel Arteta and the club remains bringing a new striker into the squad before the end of the window. Red Bull Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko has emerged as a key target for the Gunners.

The club have been in talks with the German club over a potential move. Interest in the striker dating back to over a year.

Here’s the latest over what’s being said over a move to the Emirates Stadium for the 22-year-old.

£60m boost

Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Sesko with German outlet Bild reporting that Leipzig have reduced their asking price .

The report says that the striker is now available for €70 million (£60m), due to the German side wanting to be active in the market themselves. The original asking price was said to be between €80 and €100 million (£68 and £85m), with the Gunners unwilling to meet that amount.

‘Progress’ claim

Despite the lack of concrete updates, journalist Graeme Bailey claims that ‘progress’ has been made in the search for a striker.

“Arsenal want striker in for start of pre-season – I am told they are working towards that, but also there is no panic,” he said, via TBR .

“They are in a good position – they know they are getting one of their top targets – there is no doubt about that.

“Whilst Sesko and Gyokeres are both somewhat ‘anxious’ to finalise their futures – Arsenal are making progress with their plans.”

Viktor Gyokeres ‘agreement’ impact

One thing that could impact a potential move for Sesko is Arsenal’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres. There is currently somewhat of a stand-off between the player, his current club Sporting CP and Arsenal over the transfer price.

Portuguese publication O Jogo report that there is an ‘agreement’ between Arsenal and the player’s agent that a fee of around €60 million (£51.3m) should be enough for a deal to take place. However, Sporting are still sticking to their €80 million (£68.3m) valuation.

The report adds that Manchester United remain in the frame for the striker, although his preference is to move to Arsenal.
