Latest Chelsea injury news with Malo Gusto update and Romeo Lavia hope
by Mark Wakefield · football.londonChelsea will be without defender Malo Gusto due to injury for the Premier League clash against Everton on Saturday.
The Blues host the Toffees at Stamford Bridge in the lunchtime kick-off as they aim to secure an important three points in their push for Champions League qualification.
Enzo Maresca guided Chelsea to a 2-1 win over west London rivals Fulham last weekend, with Tyrique George and Pedro Neto scoring the goals late on for the Blues at Craven Cottage.
Chelsea will now return to Stamford Bridge looking to get another win on the board as they aim to qualify for the Champions League.
However, the Blues will have to get the win with several key players on the sidelines through injury. One of whom is Gusto, who suffered an injury after making an appearance as a substitute during the win over Fulham last week.
Maresca confirmed that Gusto is not fit to feature against Everton but is hopeful that the right-back will make a return in the near future.
"Yes, Malo [Gusto] is injured, but it does not look like an important injury," Maresca told reporters on Friday.
"He's already running and doing things outside, but he won't be available for tomorrow. Hopefully, he can be available for the next one."
Maresca also confirmed that Marc Guiu and Aaron Anselmino are also ruled out for the clash against Everton through injury.
Guiu has not played since the start of February, while Anselmino is yet to feature since returning from his loan spell with Boca Juniors. Maresca stated that he is optimistic that Guiu will soon be available after almost three months on the sidelines.
"Yes, he's [Guiu] close. Hopefully, it can be one week, two weeks, and he can be with us for the final part of the season."
Chelsea will also be without Wesley Fofana and Omari Kellyman through injury for the clash against Everton. Romeo Lavia could make his return to the pitch after being an unused substitute for the win over Fulham, having missed the previous five matches with an injury.
"Yes, he [Lavia] was on the bench against Fulham, he was also on the bench, I think, some more games, I don't remember which one exactly now," said Maresca.
"So he's back, he's training with us. With Romeo, we are going to try the same thing that we are trying with Reece James.
"We know that we need to use them step by step, with Reece he's working quite well, he's already able to play two games in three days, he played 90 minutes in the conference, he played 45 against Fulham after three days. So it's a huge step forward for him and for us, and we are going to try to do the same thing with Romeo."
