Tottenham Premier League fixtures directly after Europa League games as final route mapped out
by Rob Guest · football.londonAnge Postecoglou will be determined to end Tottenham's long trophy drought by guiding his team to Europa League glory in May. Having recently exited both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, the Europa League is Spurs' last remaining chance of winning silverware this season.
The north London club now know their route to the final following the round of 16 draw in Switzerland on Friday. Tottenham will take on AZ Alkmaar in the round of 16, with the second leg due to be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, March 13.
It will hopefully be a very busy end to the season for the football club as they target a place in the Europa League final at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao. Thursday-Sunday football will once again be on the agenda for Tottenham but the hope will be that Postecoglou has sufficient numbers at his disposal this time after a host of injuries over the course of the campaign so far.
One gripe that some managers do have after European games is a lack of time between fixtures and immediately going on the road again to play away in the league. So who exactly are Tottenham due to play in the Premier League after their European games if they are to progress all the way to the final? football.london takes a look below.
Round of 16
The first leg of Tottenham's round of 16 takes place against AZ Alkmaar at AFAS Stadion on Thursday, March 6. Tottenham will be at home three days later when they host high-flying Bournemouth at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The game has already been moved to Sunday, March 9 to accommodate the Europa League round of 16 first-leg tie. It will be a very tricky game to come into directly after a European match as the Cherries have made great strides under Andoni Iraola to put themselves in with a shot of a European place.
Following the Europa League round of 16 second leg at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, March 13, Spurs will be on the road in the Premier League as they make the trip across the capital to take on Fulham. Just like the Bournemouth game, this will be an extremely difficult encounter against the Cottagers, who beat Tottenham 3-0 in the same fixture last March.
Quarter-finals
If Tottenham are to progress past AZ Alkmaar in the round of 16, they will take on either Ajax or Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals of UEFA's second club competition. The first leg of the quarter-final would be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, April 10, with the return leg away from home seven days later.
Directly after both of those European games, Tottenham are due to play teams from the Midlands. First up is a trip to take on Wolves at Molineux.
The game is in the calendar for Saturday, April 12 as things stand, with confirmation of a date and time due to be announced once the TV fixtures for April are confirmed before the end of February. If Spurs do progress, it will certainly be moved from the Saturday. After a potential quarter-final second leg, Tottenham will be at home against Nottingham Forest.
As is the case with the Wolves fixture, it is currently down in the calendar as a Saturday game on April 19 but confirmation of a date and time is likely to arrive over the next week. It will be a very tough match for Tottenham as Forest are eyeing up a Champions League place after an incredible season to date at the City Ground in 2024/25.
Semi-finals
Tottenham will be hoping to be involved in the semi-finals of the Europa League come the start of May. If Postecoglou's men are to progress to the final four, they will face one of Bodo/Glimt, Olympiacos, Viktoria Plzen or Lazio for a spot in the final. As the first leg, which will be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, is in the calendar for Thursday, May 1, Tottenham won't have to travel far for their Premier League game directly after the European match as they will be remaining in the capital.
A trip to the London Stadium to take on Graham Potter's West Ham is pencilled in for Saturday, May 3, with the date set to be pushed back if Tottenham are indeed in the final four of the Europa League. The second leg of the European semi-final takes place on Thursday, May 8, which is prior to Tottenham's home encounter against Crystal Palace.
Final
The Europa League final in Bilbao will be played before the league season comes to an end in England. While the Champions League final takes place six days after the final day of Premier League campaign, the Europa League showpiece finale is due to be played on Wednesday, May 21.
If they are in the final, Tottenham will have sufficient time to prepare for their 38th and final league game of the campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion. The match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be played on Sunday, May 25.
