Chelsea face nightmare scenario vs Leicester City as Enzo Maresca braced to rip up plan
by Kieran King · football.londonChelsea are facing a nightmare scenario ahead of Saturday's game against Leicester. Enzo Maresca's side return to action with a trip to the King Power Stadium and will be looking to return to winning ways after drawing with Manchester United and Arsenal before the international break.
Maresca has been consistent with his team selection in the Premier League this season, but the Italian might be forced to make a couple of changes to his starting XI against Leicester. Even if every member of his squad return without injury from international duty, three players are doubtful to return in time.
This is because the clash with the Foxes has been scheduled for the dreaded Saturday 12:30pm kick-off slot, leaving a tight turnaround for Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson between fixtures.
Caicedo's Ecuador were in action at 11pm UK time on Tuesday, beating Colombia 1-0 in a World Cup Qualifier, but the midfielder is not expected to return to Chelsea until Thursday. The same applies for Fernandez's Argentina, who beat Peru with a 12am UK kick-off time on Wednesday. Jackson, meanwhile, was an unused substitute for Senegal during their 2-0 win over Burundi which started at 7pm UK time on Tuesday.
The trio face a race against time to be back in training, caught up with the new time zone and ready for the trip to the East Midlands. Although there is a decent chance that Caicedo, Fernandez and Jackson will be involved at some point, Maresca could rotate his pack and make a couple of changes.
The likes of Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix and Renato Veiga are pushing for a rare start, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall will be eager to feature against his former employers. The midfielder left Leicester to join Chelsea in a £30m deal in the summer, but he is yet to start a single Premier League game this season.
