Arsenal handed double injury boost for PSG Champions League clash but one player still absent
by Lee Wilmot · football.londonArsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been boosted by the news that Mikel Merino and Benjamin White are both in training ahead of the massive Champions League semi-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
Merino and White were both absent for the Premier League match with Crystal Palace last week, with Arteta remaining coy on the duo missing out.
"They couldn't be involved," he admitted. "If not they would have been. Unfortunately, after the game [against Ipswich] we had some issues and they are not fit."
But in open training ahead of the huge Champions League clash on Tuesday night, both Merino and White were spotted taking part in the session that was allowed to be witnessed by the media.
Merino has been used as a makeshift striker in recent weeks and will be a huge boost to Arteta when naming his squad for the home game with PSG at the Emirates Stadium. Leandro Trossard has filled in as the central forward in the lineup in his absence, scoring twice in the win over Ipswich Town.
White was first spotted coming out of the London Colney building and onto the grass alongside Oleksandr Zinchenko. Merino was, however, not far behind them and eventually passed them, looking sharp as he jogged out passed the duo, keen to show his fitness.
There was, however, one major absentee, with Riccardo Calafiori still not in training, despite Arteta hoping he would return for the clash. It looks like the Italian will not be part of the squad for the game in north London on Tuesday night.
