Andrea Berta Viktor Gyokeres transfer stance emerges as Arsenal talk gathers momentum
by Isaac Seelochan · football.londonNew Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta reportedly appreciates Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres as links with a move to the Gunners gather momentum.
The Swedish striker is reportedly seen as a more realistic signing than Newcastle United's Alexander Isak. It is said that the Magpies will demand in the region of £100million to sanction an exit for their star striker ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Gyokeres, meanwhile, could cost considerably less than that with an exit agreement between him and Sporting that would allow him to leave for between £58.6m and £62.8m (€70m and €75m), as per Record Portugal. Premier League rivals Manchester United have also been heavily linked; however, with their qualification for next season's Champions League in doubt, the Gunners look to have an advantage.
With Berta's appointment officially confirmed earlier on Sunday, it appears as though no time is being wasted in making some big transfer decisions. Another of those looks set to be in midfield with a deal for Martin Zubimendi to join from Real Sociedad in a good place, as football.london understands.
And journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specialises in transfers, has provided an update on Gyokeres in his latest newsletter for GiveMeSport.
"Gyokeres is one of the names on Arsenal's list with [Alexander] Isak (who remains the dream target, but Newcastle insist on keeping him) and Sesko, who costs a similar amount of money," Romano said.
"No talks have started yet, but Berta appreciates Gyokeres since he was at Atletico as director."
Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt is one of the other strikers being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, as are Udinese's Lorenzo Lucca and former Everton striker Moise Kean, now at Fiorentina.
