Arsenal secret weapon in Jamie Gittens transfer battle emerges after huge £42.6m update
by Kieran Horn · football.londonArsenal have seemingly joined the summer transfer race for Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens and could very quickly become the frontrunners for his signature.
Chelsea, Liverpool and now the Gunners have been linked to the English winger as all three Premier League clubs look to strengthen in attack - with Gittens claimed to be near the top of the latter's shortlist. According to German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, Arsenal are in 'serious negotiations' for the 20-year-old.
Gittens has scored 12 goals and grabbed five assists from 46 appearances in all competitions this season, but he's expected to leave Dortmund this summer for potentially as little as £42.6million (€50m).
Bryan Mbuemo, Nico Williams and Alexander Isak are just a few other Arsenal targets that could potentially be on the move ahead of the 2025/26 season.
For Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta, bringing in a versatile attacker appears to be one of many aims, with a striker signing and addition in central midfield also on the agenda. To sanction marquee signings, first-team exits are very likely to occur.
At the start of 2025, both Gabriel Jesus and Jakub Kiwior would have been expected to leave but - due to injury and the latter's recent form - that may no longer be the case.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is one senior player that's fully fit and he's, therefore, expected to depart Emirates Stadium permanently. The Ukraine international has scarcely featured this season but, at 28, he still has plenty to give and thus Arsenal can obtain a good fee.
Interestingly, one club that wanted to sign Zinchenko during the January transfer window was Dortmund. If that interest remains, then two separate deals in the same negotiation could, potentially, be agreed for Zinchenko to move to Germany and Gittens to join the Gunners.
However, it must also be mentioned the same could be completed involving Chelsea and Dortmund with Carney Chukwuemeka currently on loan Signal Iduna Park. It seems as though they would like to keep him and, therefore, that deal could take the priority over Zinchenko.
Gittens certainly has his admirers within Stamford Bridge and, therefore, a swap deal could instead be negotiated involving Chelsea and Dortmund - for Gittens and Chukwuemeka.
