Viktor Gyokeres shown up by Luis Suarez as Arsenal target's replacement's true colours emerge

Sporting CP's potential successor to Viktor Gyokeres has shown up the Arsenal target as the Gunners attempt to navigate a last-minute transfer hold-up.

The Gunners are inching closer to securing their top summer target, despite Sporting's tough financial stance. Arsenal have tabled an enhanced offer worth around £69million, which would result in a significantly lower fee for the player's agent.

While the move is still anticipated to go through, Portuguese publication Record reports that the clubs are at loggerheads over the specifics of the add-ons. It's claimed that Sporting desire the add-ons to be 'easily achieved', while Arsenal are 'resisting this request'.

Meanwhile, Gyokeres, who is eager to join Mikel Arteta's side, has not turned up for Sporting's pre-season training camp in the Algarve. Portuguese reports suggest his team-mates were not taken aback by his apparent strike action, which has resulted in a fine.

However, the club are still planning for life without the former Coventry City forward, whose behaviour starkly contrasts with that of Luis Suarez, the Almeria striker poised to replace him at Sporting. Unlike Gyokeres, he continues to train with his Spanish Segunda Division team in 'total normality,' according to A Bola.

This week, footage surfaced of the 27-year-old, who netted an impressive 31 goals in 43 matches last season, training with his soon-to-be-former team-mates. His transfer to Portugal is anticipated to be finalised once Arsenal have secured the signing of Gyokeres.

Aside from the Gyokeres saga, Arsenal have been very active in the summer transfer window so far, with Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera arriving in London ahead of his expected move.

The Spaniard, 21, is poised to provide back-up for William Saliba and Gabriel in the heart of the Gunners' defence. Arsenal are optimistic that a deal for Mosquera, who featured 41 times for Valencia last season, will be wrapped up before they set off for their tour of Singapore and Hong Kong on Saturday.

Chelsea forward Noni Madueke's £52million transfer is also nearing completion. Mosquera, who is expected to sign for an initial fee of £13m with performance-related add-ons, and Madueke would become the club's fourth and fifth summer signings.

Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard, Spain international Martin Zubimendi and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga have already been confirmed. New sporting director Andrea Berta has hit the ground running in bolstering Arsenal's squad as Arteta sets his sights on the club's first Premier League title in over two decades.

Gabriel and Myles Lewis-Skelly have also inked new deals during the off-season, with a long-term extension for young talent Ethan Nwaneri on the cards as well.
