Pep Guardiola makes huge Man City declaration amid 115 charges wait

Pep Guardiola has stated that he will stay at Manchester City even if they were relegated as a punishment for their 115 charges.

The Spanish manager committed his future to City on Thursday by signing a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2027.

Many fans were not sure as to whether or not Guardiola would stay. Based on his reactions to questions regarding the contract, he really didn't know either. Some had suspected that he wanted to wait until there was some positive news to come out of the hearing regarding City's 115 charges.

Now, regardless of the outcome of the 115 charges, the Catalan coach will remain at the club. Guardiola has defended his credibility, saying that he was never going to leave if they got punished.

He said: "I said that six months ago. It's not because I extend the contract that I pretend how nice this club is. I said six months ago or one year ago - what happens if we get relegated?

"I will be here. If we are in the Conference, we are going to come up and come up. Negotiating the new deal with the board was a two-hour process.

"All my life decisions have been made based on what I feel in that moment."

Although Guardiola staying in the Premier League may be the news that London club fans did not want to hear, there could potentially be some good to come from the deal.

Initially when the Spaniard put pen to paper, there had been some fear from fans of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham. This fear was due to the theory that Guardiola would only sign if he knew the hearing regarding the charges was going well.

Now we know that, no matter the punishment, Guardiola would stay at the club.

What the City manager will be wary of is his team's record as of late. The Premier League champions have lost their last four games. This is the first time that this has happened in Guardiola's managerial career.

Spurs will be hoping to add to this record when they visit the Etihad tomorrow for the later kick-off. The London club will be without Rodrigo Bentancur following a seven game suspension due to comments he made about his teammate Son Heung-min.
