Inside Chelsea at Club World Cup as training details and Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens plan revealed
by Bobby Vincent · football.londonChelsea will return to training on Tuesday as they begin to step up their preparation for the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras.
After beating Benfica after extra-time in Charlotte over the weekend, the Blues take on the Brazilian side in Philadelphia on Friday evening for a place in the semi-final of the revamped competition. Right now, though, Chelsea are based in Miami, where they will be until Thursday when they will travel to Philadelphia - around 24 hours before the match at the Lincoln Financial Field.
Chelsea were given a two-day rest following Saturday night's exertions against Benfica. The players have been using their downtime to explore the city of Miami. There have been trips to the famous South Beach, while the players have been taking this rare time off to spend with their family members, football.london understands. While there has been time spent with families, the players have been eating together in the evenings with trips out to the local restaurants.
When they do resume training on Tuesday, the Blues will be using the Barry University facilities. The temperature in Miami is forecasted to be over 30 degrees Celsius for the remainder of the week - a tad warmer than conditions in Philadelphia at the time of writing.

Miami has been chosen as the destination for the next few days with Chelsea looking for a change of scenery after spending more than a week in Philadelphia for their back-to-back group matches against Flamengo and Esperance de Tunis. The Blues, though, are set to touch down in Pennsylvania on Thursday evening to complete their pre-match media duties.
Meanwhile, Joao Pedro flew from Brazil to the United States on Sunday to complete a move from Brighton, football.london understands. Chelsea reached an agreement - believed to be in the region of £55million - with the Seagulls on Sunday for the Brazil international, who is set to sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge in the coming days.
The 23-year-old forward will complete his medical in Miami and join up with his new teammates for the first time and is expected to be in the squad for Friday's game with Palmeiras. Pedro will need to be registered by Thursday's deadline in order to be eligible for the remainder of the competition in the States.
Elsewhere, Jamie Gittens will also become a Chelsea player in the next few days. Gittens has already completed his medical with the Blues after a £55million (including add-ons) deal was agreed with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday - just a few hours prior to Chelsea's win against Benfica in Charlotte.
However, Gittens is cup-tied and ineligible to take part in the Club World Cup for Chelsea. The 20-year-old, though, is expected to use the time in the United States to get familiar with his new teammates before making his debut for the Blues later in the summer.
