Geovany Quenda transfer update as Chelsea's 'reason' behind £40m deal emerges

Further details have emerged about Chelsea's move to sign Sporting Lisbon star Geovany Quenda.

News broke on Friday that the Blues had reached an agreement with Sporting to sign the talented 17-year-old. football.london understands that a seven-year contract has been agreed to sign Quenda, who will officially move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2026.

It's understood that Chelsea have agreed a £40million fee to sign Quenda, beating Manchester United to the teenager's signature in the process. Chelsea have also included the option of a further 12 months being added into the deal for Quenda, who will link up with the Blues squad at the end of next season.

For months it's been Man United who have been linked with signing Quenda, particularly after the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new head coach. Now a fresh report has emerged providing more details on Chelsea's move to sign the Sporting star.

Fabrizio Romano has reported for Give Me Sport that Chelsea were pushed to complete a deal for Quenda due to another club apparently joining the race.

Bayern Munich are reported to have expressed an interest in signing Quenda, which led to the Blues accelerating talks with Sporting to get a deal over the line.

It has also been reported that Chelsea were also forced to meet one of Sporting's requests in order to agree a deal.

The report states that the Portuguese club demanded that Quenda remain with their squad until the end of next season before officially completing a switch to Stamford Bridge.

Quenda has two goals and eight assists to his name for Sporting this season.

The teenager will get more valuable first-team action for the Primeira Liga outfit over the next 18 months before officially becoming a part of the Chelsea squad.
