Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli - Latest Arsenal injury news and return dates before Man Utd

by · football.london

Mikel Arteta is unlikely to get any Arsenal stars back from injury before March's international break. The Gunners have been plagued by key absences this season; with Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Riccardo Calafiori among those to have missed action but that are currently available.

England forward Bukayo Saka is the marquee name recovering from injury at the moment with Arteta's attacking options dwindling after he picked up a hamstring issue back in December. Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz have all been hit by significant blows since then with Takehiro Tomiyasu also needing to undergo surgery.

There is hope at least two of those names will be able to make an impact before the end of the campaign but, in the meantime, Arteta will have to deal with the options currently at his disposal.

With that being said, football.london has rounded up everything there is to know about all five injured stars;

Bukayo Saka

Injury: Hamstring

Saka has missed the last 11 weeks with a hamstring injury that required surgery to fix. He has been captured doing some individual gym work, with the hope being he will be able to play a role in the Gunners' expected Champions League quarter-final.

What Arteta has said: "I think so [back after the international break] but, again, let's see how they evolve in the next few weeks to make the right steps and then after that, they've been out for a long, long time, so we're going to have to integrate them as well gradually.

"They're evolving well, but they're still a bit far. We have a meeting tomorrow to discuss where they are, especially Gabi, who probably has a chance before Bukayo to come in, but how soon that is, we'll have to see how it evolves in the next week."

Possible return date: Fulham (H) Tuesday, April 1

Gabriel Martinelli

Injury: Hamstring

Martinelli was forced off early into the club's Carabao Cup second leg defeat to Newcastle with the Brazilian likely to return in early April.

Kai Havertz

Injury: Hamstring

Havertz tore his hamstring during Arsenal's warm-weather training camp in Dubai and is unlikely to play again this season after undergoing surgery.

What Arteta has said: "We were having a great camp in Dubai - by recharging, training, having some time off and connecting again with nature in a different environment, and then the injury happened in a very unexpected way. Certainly it's a big blow because of the injuries that we have but fortunately, we've been through a lot this season."

Possible return date: 2025/2026 pre-season

Gabriel Jesus

Injury: Knee

Jesus damaged his ACL in the FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester United. An operation was subsequently needed to fix the problem as his recovery continues.

Possible return date: November 2025

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Injury: Knee

What Arteta has said: "He's been trying everything he possibly could to try to avoid [having surgery]. We did that as well with the department. At some stage, it wasn't reacting as well as we needed it to, so we decided between all parties that the best thing to do was have surgery again.

"Unfortunately, it's going to keep him out for a long period again, and it's very sad because he's a player who lives for the game. He's really keen to play and be consistent, and when he's at his level he's an incredible player for us."

Possible return date: December 2025
