Chelsea trio battle for key role
Chelsea could head into the new Premier League season with three top strikers at their disposal. Joao Pedro recently leapfrogged Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson in the pecking order following his explosive debut start for the Blues, but everything is still to play for.
Unless the latter of the three irons out a few creases in his game, Pedro and Delap look primed to lead the Chelsea frontline. The former Brighton talisman can also play on the wings and in the number 10, so he'll certainly prove valuable to Maresca.
Palmer pulls the strings
Unsurprisingly, Cole Palmer will continue to pull the strings. The 23-year-old playmaker has made great progress under Maresca, influencing games in the left AND right half-spaces.
Previously, he was drawn to the right – and it worked. But now he's taken his game to the next level, making himself more unpredictable in the final third. With Pedro or Delap leading the frontline, there won't be as much pressure on Palmer to find the back of the net.
Rogers offers Maresca much-needed versatility
Rogers would be a superb addition to the Chelsea starting lineup. The Aston Villa star often featured on the right towards the end of last term, but he enjoyed great spells on the left too.
He and Pedro Neto could seamlessly swap flanks throughout a game, which makes him an attractive option. Rogers, who would also be joining a contingent of former Manchester City players, could also provide cover for Palmer in the middle.
There's one problem though. His price tag. The CIES Football Observatory currently value Rogers between €96m (£83m) and €124m (£107m). Chelsea could always sweeten a potential deal by offering Axel Disasi or Joao Felix...
Club World Cup star keeps his place
Neto could be one of the first names on the team sheet when Chelsea host Crystal Palace on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. The 25-year-old winger has been absolutely superb for the Blues at the Club World Cup this summer; he could bag himself a player of the tournament trophy with match-winning performance in the final against Paris Saint-Germain.
As previously mentioned, Neto and Rogers could interchange on the flanks. With Estevao Willian set to join the squad in the coming weeks and Jamie Gittens eager to impress, Maresca will lots of exciting options.
