Huge Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal transfer update emerges just hours after Andrea Berta arrival
by Kieran Horn · football.londonArsenal are developing a strong transfer interest in Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres, according to a new report. The Gunners are expected to sign a striker this summer with Newcastle's Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig as other options.
Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the latter duo but both are likely to cost a significant amount and with that in mind, alternatives are also under consideration. Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt is one of those while Udinese's Lorenzo Lucca and former Everton striker Moise Kean, now at Fiorentina, are new names to be linked.
However, it looks as though Gyokeres may soon become the priority after the Athletic claimed that new sporting director Andrea Berta is a firm admirer of the 26-year-old and he is now expected to feature prominently among Arsenal's striker options.
The report also adds he may be a more realistic signing than Isak with the Magpies to demand in the region of £100million to sanction an exit ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Gyokeres, meanwhile, could cost considerably less than that with an exit agreement between him and Sporting that would allow him to leave for between £58.6million and £62.8million (€70million and €75million), as per Record Portugal.
With Berta's appointment officially confirmed earlier on Sunday, it looks as though no time is being wasted in making some big transfer decisions. Another of those looks set to be in midfield with a deal for Martin Zubimendi to join from Real Sociedad in a good place, as football.london understands.
Exits are also expected to take place with Thomas Partey and Jorginho both seeing their contract expire this summer. Oleksandr Zinchenko, Reiss Nelson and Jakub Kiwior are a few others with uncertain futures and their likely departures could help Arsenal raise further funds for new signings.
