Anthony Gordon to Arsenal transfer twist as £55m bid made amid Eberechi Eze talks
by Matthew Abbott · football.londonNewcastle United reportedly pushing to get a deal done with Nottingham Forest for Anthony Elanga could impact the future of Anthony Gordon.
Arsenal are said to admire the England international, with Mikel Arteta open to signing a wide forward during this summer transfer window. Nico Williams and Rodrygo are also under consideration, albeit there is an expectation that the former will sign for Barcelona.
Chelsea winger Noni Madueke is another alternative to be linked with the Gunners this summer. However, it is said that any potential signing of a top left-sided winger would rely on Gabriel Martinelli leaving the club.
The possible availability of Gordon may influence which of their options they pursue. Newcastle signing Elanga would, at the very least, reduce their reliance on their number ten.
Fabrizio Romano claims the North East club sent Forest a £55miillion bid today (Thursday). Doing a deal at that price would also mean Newcastle have a £100million pair of wingers after paying Everton up to £45million for Gordon two-and-a-half years ago.
The latter, though, would be worth almost double that now. Liverpool reportedly agreed to pay £75million last summer before the selling club backed out of that transfer.
Any change to the availability of Gordon could also affect ongoing discussions with Eberechi Eze. Arsenal want an attacking midfielder and a winger, with a solution for the latter position potentially seeming further away than the former.
However, should that change and Gordon emerge as a viable option, the club would have a decision over whom to pursue in the absence of any departure of Martinelli. One set of negotiations may need to pause until the funds from any outgoings allow them to strengthen in both areas of the squad. They would be in addition to one of Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres.
