Alexander Isak breaks silence on Newcastle contract stand-off as Arsenal transfer links ramp up
by Kieran Horn · football.londonAlexander Isak has offered a clear update on talk of a contract stand-off with Newcastle which saw Arsenal transfer rumours increase significantly. The Gunners have been linked to Isak ever since his days at Real Sociedad and have kept tabs on his progress following his move to the Premier League back in the summer of 2022.
In that time he has made 76 appearances for the Magpies and scored 40 goals with links to numerous clubs emerging as a result. Chelsea took a keen interest this past summer but were met by a firm stance which resulted in them looking elsewhere for attacking reinforcement.
Nonetheless, talk of a move to London for Isak has remained with that increasing after a surprising contract update that suggests a number of hurdles have emerged which has left his entourage shocked. Thankfully for all parties involved, there is no immediate danger as Isak is contracted at St James' Park until 2028.
The update could change Isak's stance though, with it possible he pushes for an exit as early as next summer. Unfortunately for Arsenal and any other clubs thinking about making a move though, that does not look to be the case with Isak himself clarifying his contract stance.
“I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there," he said as quoted by Fotbol Skanalen. "I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else.”
On claims that his representatives are frustrated with Newcastle, he added: “The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing.”
Isak is currently away with Sweden for Nations League games against Slovakia and Azerbaijan, however their preparations have been disrupted with the squad having to fly back to Stockholm after their training camp in Marbella was derailed by more dangerous weather in Spain.
