Arsenal stance on Alexander Isak summer transfer - 'It is an obsession'

by · football.london

Arsenal are reportedly obsessed with the idea of signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their attack.

The Gunners find themselves off the pace in the race to win the Premier League title and the reason for this has mainly be attributed to their attack. While the 7-1 victory at PSV Eindhoven was not a glowing example of this, Arsenal have struggled to break some teams down including Manchester United, who held them to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

With both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus missing, goals have been particularly hard to come by for the North London club. Last summer, football.london understands that the Gunners drew up the blueprint for the ideal striker and Isak fit the bill, as did RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.

A move for the latter fell through as he chose to commit his future to the German club and, eventually, Arsenal ran out of time to sign an alternative. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, both Isak and Sesko remain on the club's radar heading into this summer.

Romano insists that Isak is the first choice for the Gunners and he likened there interest to that of an 'obsession'. However, Newcastle continue to insist that the Swede is not for sale having seen him bag 22 goals for them this campaign.

It is understood that figures of '€70-90m' are still way off the mark but it is unclear how Newcastle will react once Arsenal or Liverpool, who also hold an interest in Isak, approach them. Due to his heavy price tag, Arsenal are also keeping a close eye on Sesko who is thought to be ready to leave this summer.

His price would be considerably lower than that of Isak's. The 21-year-old has scored 17 goals in 35 appearances this campaign.
