Arsenal face double January transfer decision as £67m Mikel Arteta problem emerges

by · football.london

Arsenal could be left with an important decision to make before the January transfer window closes.

The Gunners are yet to make any new additions to their squad, with Arsenal and their rivals having until February 3 to bring in reinforcements. A new striker has been regularly mentioned on their transfer wish-list and several names have been mentioned as possible targets over the last few weeks.

One such player is Benjamin Sesko, with the RB Leipzig star understood to be a player of interest for Arsenal. The Gunners were in the running to sign the striker last summer, before he eventually put pep to paper on a new deal with the Bundesliga club.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal may have the opportunity to sign Sesko, but not until next summer. Leipzig are thought to be unwilling to let the Slovenia international leave before the February 3 deadline (at 11pm), meaning the Gunners will have to wait until the end of the season to be able to sign the striker.

However, it has been reported that Leipzig could allow Sesko to leave the German club for a fee worth £67million, which is significantly higher than the original £50million release clause in his contract. This could present a dilemma for Arsenal, with another reported target set to be available.

The report claims that Wolves star Matheus Cunha could still depart Molineux before the transfer window closes. Arsenal have been credited with an interest in the Brazilian, but it has been suggested an agreement was close to being reached over a new contract.

The article goes on to report Cunha's agent is "monitoring" the market for a potential opportunity for the player to move to a new club. With Arsenal being reportedly interested in the Wolves star, it could present a dilemma to the Gunners and their head coach Mikel Arteta.

Even though Arsenal may be in the market for a new frontman, it remains to be seen if the Gunners have plans to sign both Cunha and Sesko in the weeks and months ahead. As a result, if there is interest in both men, a decision may have to be made on which players is considered a priority target.
