Arsenal given major Dusan Vlahovic transfer boost after 'bargain' fee verdict

by · football.london

Arsenal have been given a huge transfer boost after previous reports linking Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners are desperately short of attacking options which has seen them fall 15 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool in the title race. Mikel Arteta's team are without Gabriel Jesus and his alternative up-front, Kai Havertz, due to long-term injuries.

Arsenal's struggles have seen them forced to use midfielder Mikel Merino as a makeshift striker. The Spaniard scored a brace against Leicester City on his debut in that position last month, but he has only been able to score once since then.

Vlahovic has been a name previously linked with a move to north London, including in the recent January transfer window. However, the Gunners opted not to sign a new striker, something which may be revisited this summer with Juventus reportedly asking for a fee in the region of £35million according to various reports.

And those rumours will have been fuelled by the latest update from journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Italian, who specialises in football transfers, has opened up on Vlahovic's future in his latest newsletter for GiveMeSport.

When asked if the forward could be available for a bargain fee this summer, he said: "Yes, it can be, as he’s out of contract in 2026 and several clubs are interested, in England but also in other countries. It’s an open story."

The player himself has already given the Gunners a clear indication of what tactics best suit his style of play, which could end up being a message to Arsenal boss Arteta.

"Yes I like to play with another striker on the side. I get on well, but it also depends on the coach," Vlahovic said in an interview with RSI in November, via Calciomercato.

"Definitely, it is a bit easier because [Aleksandar] Mitrovic is a strong player who plays a lot with his back to goal and engaging in aerial duels and I can exploit my qualities.

"It's also because coach Dragan Stojkovic didn't force me to do so many defensive tasks. And for a player like me, for my frame... honestly I can't run so much. Because then I am not fresh in the final third."
