Benjamin Sesko Arsenal transfer update emerges amid Mikel Arteta 'talks' claim
by Bruna Reis · football.londonArsenal are working behind the scenes to sign a reinforcement up front in a bid to reignite their faltering title challenge.
Mikel Arteta was handed a major blow when Gabriel Jesus sustained an ACL injury during Arsenal's FA Cup defeat to Manchester United - leaving the club with no other strikers available. After dropping further points in the Premier League following the 2-2 draw to Aston Villa, Arteta was quizzed about the need to dip in the market to sign a new attacker.
"I look at a lot of positives and the things we have been able to do in the market because we’ve had so much to do in the last few years," he said. "We haven’t invested really in the things that other teams have done in the front players, but we put it in other areas that we believed were very necessary and we have to develop players to a really high standard as well. Every case is different and I’m very happy with what we have."
He also revealed he is in 'constant' contact with the owners regarding new signings. "We are in constant contact obviously," he added. "They understand the situation and how the team is evolving. They’ve been super supportive and they continue to be.
"It’s about backing the club and themselves because we all want the best. The decisions we make are not to back anybody. If it’s something that makes sense and is going to improve the squad and give us the ability to perform to the level and to win the things that we want to do, if that’s the case and we have the resources to do it, we will try."
With that said, internal talks are said to have continued over the recruitment of a forward, according to Sky Sports. Arsenal have held a long-term interest in RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko after failing to bring him to the Emirates last summer.
The report adds that discussions are 'ongoing' over whether a deal is possible for Sesko this month. Meanwhile, Diario AS claim that Arsenal have made contact with the German club over the forward though a mid-season move is described as 'still complicated' despite Leipzig getting knocked out of the Champions League.
Elsewhere, it has been suggested that Arteta has spoken to Sesko about a potential move.
