Myles Lewis-Skelly makes Dan Burn joke just hours after Newcastle's Carabao Cup win vs Liverpool

by · football.london

Just one day after Myles Lewis-Skelly helped Arsenal beat Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the teenager was among those to join up with the England squad at St George's Park.

"I'll be be smiling all day," the left-back beamed as he arrived, confirming that he had remembered to bring his passport, shin pads and boots. Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Dan Burn were some of the next stars to arrive, with the Newcastle man admitting he was "tired" after helping Newcastle win the Carabao Cup trophy just hours beforehand.

The centre-back scored the opener for Eddie Howe's side at Wembley Stadium, with a towering header leaving Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher no chance. Asked what time he got to bed, the 32-year-old said: "I wasn't too bad. I had the kids there so we were in bed early. But the rest of the lads, yeah, it was a heavy night."

In a video posted on the England YouTube account, Burn and Lewis-Skelly were seen side by side outside the Hilton at St George's Park, with the pair posing for pictures. The Arsenal man, though, was taken back at Burn's height, with the Newcastle defender standing at 6ft 7in. For comparison, Lewis-Skelly is 5ft 10in.

"This is too much. This is actually too much," Lewis-skelly said while standing next to his England teammate. When the cameraman referenced the height difference, Lewis-Skelly said: "This is a joke." Burn responded: "Everyone gets it, mate."

It was a hilarious moment between the two defenders, who could not stop smiling throughout the whole video. It is the first time either player has been called up to an England squad and they will no doubt be focused on trying to impress new boss Thomas Tuchel ahead of the games against Albania and Latvia in the coming days.

“I’m buzzing, you know,” Lewis-Skelly told the official Arsenal website about being called up by England. “Honesty I was elated, just shouting around my house!

“Obviously I'm excited for what's coming up, but you’ve always got to stay locked in on the present and not get too attached to the feeling that’s coming later down the line.”
