Arsenal make Alexander Isak transfer 'decision' as Newcastle United plan next move

by · football.london

Arsenal are reported to have made a decision regarding their apparent interest in signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the Sweden international over the last few months.

Signing a new centre forward has dominated the Arsenal rumour mill since last summer, with the club opting not to go into the market for a new No.9 before the start of the season or during the January transfer window.

According to our sister title Chronicle Live, though, Arsenal are no longer interested in pursuing a deal to sign Isak.

The report claims that Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is now the priority centre forward target for the Gunners going into the summer transfer window.

Gyokeres is reported to be valued at around £58.5million this summer, which would be significantly lower than the rumoured price tag that Newcastle would demand for Isak.

The report states that the Magpies have no plans to sanction Isak's exit in the summer, while claims from other outlets have suggested a potential asking price would be in excess of £100million.

Isak's current contract with Newcastle is set to expire in the summer of 2028, with the St James' Park club said to be keen on extending the striker's deal in the coming months.

It remains to be seen what plans Arsenal's new sporting director, Andrea Berta, will have for the summer transfer window and if it turns out to be true that Isak is no longer a target.

Isak and Gyokeres are not the only strikers to be linked with a move to Arsenal over the last few months, with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike and Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen also reportedly on the club's shortlist.
