What Mikel Arteta and Arne Slot have said about Premier League title race - 'such a great position'

The return of Premier League football this week means that talk of the title race has also resumed.

Arsenal are battling Liverpool to be crowned Premier League champions this season, but face an uphill task with nine matches left to play. Tuesday night will see the Gunners host Fulham at the Emirates Stadium in their first fixture after the March international break.

There are currently 12 points separating Arsenal in second from Liverpool at the top of the table. That gap could be reduced to nine for 24 hours if the Gunners manage to claim a victory over Fulham on Tuesday night.

With Premier League action returning this week, both Mikel Arteta and Arne Slot have been asked about the task ahead of both clubs. The Arsenal boss spoke to reporters on Monday, where he was quizzed on what is still possible for his side this season, with a Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on the horizon.

"It's possible to win tomorrow [Tuesday against Fulham]. And the preparation is to be better than Fulham and beat them tomorrow.

"And if we do that, we're going to start to generate a good momentum and it's going to help for both competitions."

Liverpool head coach, Slot, was also asked about the title race ahead against Arsenal. The Reds lost the Carabao Cup final and were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain before the international break, but insists the Merseyside club are looking forward to the run-in.

"Many of our players played important matches for their national teams one week ago. Everybody can understand the position we are in at the moment," Slot told reporters on Tuesday.

"We are so looking forward to these nine games. Our players are refreshed, in my opinion. It wasn't all negative.

"We played a [Carabao Cup] final against a very good Newcastle team and we got beaten by a very good PSG team [in the Champions League].

"I was proud of our performance against PSG. Maybe the best game we played this season, but unfortunately, we lost on penalties."

Slot added: "In the final stages of the season, every game matters. Nine finals but it is for every team.

"These games are very important for us, starting with Everton. Not only because it's the Merseyside derby but because we're in such a great position as well."
