What Bukayo Saka did immediately after Arsenal goal vs Fulham speaks volumes

It was the perfect return to action for Bukayo Saka at Arsenal as he helped the Gunners close the gap on Liverpool.

Saka returned to training last week following a three month injury lay-off due to a hamstring injury.

He was deemed fit enough to be named on the bench for Tuesday night’s Premier League clash against Fulham.

Stand-in striker Mikel Merino gave Arsenal the lead in the 37th minute, and that’s how the scoreline stayed until Saka entered the pitch. He returned to a standing ovation from all four sides of the Emirates Stadium.

He was quick to justify the excitement around his return by doubling Arsenal’s lead just a few minutes after entering the pitch.

After celebrating with his teammates, Saka then continued his celebration by running over to the bench to celebrate with Sam Wilson, Arsenal’s lead physical performance coach.

Wilson will have played a big part in helping Saka recover from his injury and make sure he was ready for his return to action. The gesture shows just how much work goes on behind the scenes, not only by the player themselves, but also the backroom staff.

Saka’s goal turned out to be the winning one for Arsenal with Rodrigo Muniz scoring for Fulham in the fourth minute of extra time to make it 2-1.

The three points moves the Gunners to within nine points of leaders Liverpool ahead of Wednesday night’s Merseyside Derby at Anfield. Arsenal will be back in action on Saturday as they look to keep the pressure on Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta’s side take on Everton at Goodison Park in the early kick-off (12.30pm). Saka will be hoping that his impact on the team continues between now and the end of the season.

His team-mate Declan Rice, meanwhile, retains belief that Arsenal can 'hunt' Liverpool down as the title race remains just about on.

"We know we're behind them in the league," he said.

"We can only control what we can do and that's to win our eight games.

"We've slipped up one too many times this season, we will keep hunting them down and keep putting pressure on them that's all we can do."
