Arsenal 'transfer list' four stars ahead of major Mikel Arteta summer rebuild
by Matty Hewitt, Harry Brent · football.londonArsenal are already laying the groundwork for the 2025/26 season, with whispers of a significant squad overhaul in the pipeline this summer. The Gunners' current campaign has been marred by injuries and inconsistent performances, and their already slim Premier League title aspirations were dashed following a 1-1 stalemate with Manchester United on Sunday.
Liverpool now sit comfortably atop the table, 15 points ahead. While Arsenal's Champions League ambitions remain alive, attention seems to be shifting towards a summer overhaul as their domestic season winds down.
The need for a central striker at Arsenal is well-known, and it's believed they're also scouting for wingers and central midfielders. However, to accommodate new arrivals, they'll need to free up funds and squad space, which suggests several first-team players could be shown the exit door.
Various reports suggest that Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jorginho, Thomas Partey, and Kieran Tierney are all likely to depart this summer, as Arsenal aim to amass a 'transfer war chest' for manager Mikel Arteta.
According to Transfermarkt, the four players collectively hold a value of £55million. But with three of them nearing the end of their contracts this summer, it's unlikely Arsenal will secure that full amount, reports the Mirror.
Partey, whose contract expires at season's end, is the only one among the four seeing regular playtime. However, the Ghanaian, who reportedly earns £200,000 per week and turns 32 in June, is also one of the club's top earners.
Jorginho, whose contract is also nearing its end, has seen limited league action this season due to the arrival of Mikel Merino, which has nudged him down the hierarchy. This situation, along with the anticipated summer signing of Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, suggests it might be mutually beneficial for the ex-Chelsea star to seek pastures new with a move to Brazil one possible avenue.
Zinchenko is another who has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal following Riccardo Calafiori's transfer to the Emirates. Though Calafiori has spent a significant part of the season sidelined through injury, Arteta has predominantly opted for Jurrien Timber as his go-to backup left-back.
The former Man City star attracted attention from several clubs during the January transfer window, including Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, but the 28-year-old Ukrainian chose to stay put. However, a summer departure seems likely, with Arsenal reportedly setting a price tag around £17m.
Kieran Tierney finds himself in a similar predicament to Zinchenko, with the Scottish international struggling for game time at left-back. The 27 year old's contract expires in the summer, and rumours suggest a return to his old stomping ground at Celtic could be on the horizon.
As for potential arrivals, Arsenal are keen to secure a striker, given the underwhelming performances of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus up front. Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen have all been mentioned as possible targets, alongside alternative options like Liam Delap, Ollie Watkins and Lautaro Martinez.
When it comes to wingers, Mikel Arteta's top pick is reportedly Nico Williams. However, the Spanish international isn't short of suitors, with Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid also reportedly interested.
Meanwhile, Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo and Ademola Lookman are all on Arsenal's radar.
