Furious Tottenham fans boo Thomas Frank and demand sack after West Ham humiliation

by · football.london

Tottenham Hotspur fans have called for Thomas Frank to be sacked following Saturday afternoon's 2-1 defeat to West Ham. Callum Wilson snatched three crucial points for the Hammers in the dying embers of stoppage time, bundling the ball into the net.

Crysencio Summerville broke the deadlock inside the opening quarter of an hour, beating Guglielmo Vicario with a deflected strike. Cristian Romero, who diverted the West Ham winger's effort past the Spurs goalkeeper, redeemed himself in the second-half.

The Tottenham captain levelled proceedings shortly after the hour mark, smashing the ball past Alphonse Areola with an incredible header. Dominic Solanke grabbed the ball out of the net, and Romero looked set to inspire a late comeback.

Then, with just seconds to spare, Wilson put the Hammers ahead. A few moments later, Jarred Gillett blew the final whistle and home supporters in the south stand quickly singled out the Spurs boss, who's been under immense pressure.

"You're getting sacked in the morning," they chanted, which was followed by a chorus of boos. Tottenham have now failed to win each of their last five games across all competitions, losing three and drawing two.

Since the turn of the new year, the Lilywhites have cemented a place in the bottom half of the Premier League and been knocked out of the FA Cup. If Bournemouth defeat Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Monday night, Spurs will fall to 15th in the table.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the defeat to West Ham, Frank explained how he plans to manage the pressure. The Dane said: "It's all about how we can get the players out there full of confidence and brave and play forward.

"We need to. I know it's a big London derby, of course, against West Ham, with the rivalry and everything, but it's all about us. For me, it's all about us.

"It's how we come out with energy, positive, forward, adding hopefully first half against Sunderland, second half against Villa. If we can do that, then we'll put a top performance out there, and then we'll win the game."

On how it feels to be under such scrutiny, Frank said: "For me, it is only focusing on what I can affect. There is a lot of noise. I know that because I have been told that, I am not stupid.

"Of course, I know we want more good results, but I am also focusing on what I can see is actually working. We need to do more of that. I know we need to focus on being calm and do the right thing and keep carrying on.

"If we do that, then you know it is a random game. If we keep doing the right thing, then that randomness, hopefully, because we do more things right, and we have done that especially in the last six games, that randomness will turn, because we keep going after the positive and believe what we are doing is the right thing, then things will turn."

Frank will be under even more pressure following the defeat to West Ham. The Dane will be looking to return to winning ways on Tuesday night when Tottenham host Borussia Dortmund in their penultimate game of the UEFA Champions League 'league phase'.

The Lilywhites are currently 11th with 11 points, and they're well-positioned to – at least – secure an unseeded knockout phase play-off place.
