Shock Leroy Sane to Arsenal transfer update emerges as Mikel Arteta receives clear green light
by Kieran Horn · football.londonAndrea Berta has officially been in his sporting director role for just a few days and already many huge Arsenal transfer updates have arrived. The Gunners are expected to endure a busy summer window with multiple new signings and outgoings on the horizon before the 2025/26 season.
The addition of an elite-level striker appears to be the priority with Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP seemingly as the new No.1 choice. Further back, to ease the likely departures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho, Martin Zubimendi looks set join from Real Sociedad with the deal in a good place ahead of the summer, as football.london understands.
A versatile attacker coming in is also a real possibility with Athletic Club winger Nico Williams as Arteta's dream target. For a number of reasons however, that may be a challenging deal to pull off with Leroy Sane of Bayern Munich and another Premier League star now seemingly seen as two alternatives.
With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours with Berta getting to work very quickly.
Sane update
According to Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal are seriously considering signing Sane as a free agent with talks having already taken place.
However, it has also been noted that the Germany international is willing to stay with his recent performances recognised by the club's hierarchy. Arteta has worked with Sane at Manchester City and now a reunion is a real possibility.
football.london says: This would be quite the coup from Arsenal, Arteta and Berta. Sane has been performing at the highest level for some time and bringing him in, despite the fact he turns 30 next season, would be a superb signing.
There is of course no guarantee that his contract expires this summer with a Bayern extension still possible, but it would be foolish of Arsenal to not explore a deal given the circumstances. Capable of playing on both flanks, Arsenal would be making quite the saving as opposed to paying a huge fee for Williams.
Sanctioning this specific deal would also allow focus and thus funds to be placed elsewhere with a striker and potentially two midfielders coming in as well.
Kudus transfer 'green light'
West Ham's Mohammed Kudus is another option for Arsenal with transfer links to the Ghana international dating back to when he was still at Ajax.
And it looks as though the Gunners have been handed the green light to sign him with TBR Football claiming the Hammers are prepared to sell him this summer with his release clause set at £85million. Alongside Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are interested while there are also potential suitors in Saudi Arabia.
football.london says: Kudus is undoubtedly a talented footballer, but he is not really the marquee signing Arsenal need for a number of reasons.
From 72 appearances in all competitions, Kudus has managed just 17 goals and eight assists which is not quite a great return despite the fact he plays for West Ham. Two positives are his versatility and the lack of time that would be required for him to adapt to new surroundings.
However, signing either Williams or Sane would be a better move given the profile coming in and the lack of significant funds required to sign the other. Spending that on Kudus is probably not the best use of funds especially considering what Arsenal need elsewhere.
