Arsenal's Premier League run-in predicted to see if they beat Liverpool to title
by Lewis Barton · football.londonWith 13 Premier League games remaining, Arsenal sit eight points behind the league leaders Liverpool with a game in hand as Mikel Arteta's side look to win the league for the first time since 2004.
As it stands, Arsenal will need to be almost flawless from now until the end of the Premier League season while hoping Liverpool drop a few points along the way, with the two sides still set to go head-to-head at Anfield in early May. That clash could prove to be a title decider, but for now, the Gunners need to take it one game at a time, win as many as they can, and hope results go in their favour.
It won't be easy for Arteta's side, especially with the injury problems currently plaguing the squad. Right now, Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling and Ethan Nwaneri are the Gunners' only fit attackers, with Mikel Merino being used as a makeshift striker for Arsenal in the 2-0 win against Leicester City.
Away games against Man Utd, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool await the Gunners as well as home clashes against Chelsea and Newcastle United, so how could Arsenal perform in the final 13 games of the season? This is what happened...
Arsenal's Premier League title run-in simulated
To set up this simulation, we used the Football Manager 2024 editor to update the game with the latest results, fixtures and standings. We then simulated until the end of the season to see how FM24 judges Arsenal's title hopes.
Game one: Arsenal 2-0 West Ham United (22/02/25)
Nwaneri continued his impressive form with a first-half brace at the Emirates Stadium, while some good defending helped the Gunners see out a 2-0 win against their London rivals.
Game two: Nottingham Forest 2-2 Arsenal (26/2/25)
Away to Nottingham Forest is a tough task on paper, and it proved to be just that in the simulation, with Arsenal drawing 2-2 at the City Ground. The Gunners went behind twice, but goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel ensured they left with a point.
Game three: Man Utd 1-3 Arsenal (09/03/25)
After going behind after four minutes, Arsenal came from behind to beat Man Utd 3-1 at Old Trafford, with Trossard, Martin Odegaard, and Merino all scoring.
Game four: Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea (16/03/25)
Arsenal passed another tough test when they hosted Chelsea in the simulation, with the Gunners having to wait until the 88th minute to break the deadlock as Thomas Partey fired home to secure a 1-0 win.
Game five: Arsenal 2-1 Fulham (01/04/25)
First-half strikes from Trossard and Ben White fired Arsenal into a two-goal lead against Fulham, and despite a late goal from Rodrigo Muniz, the Gunners managed to hold out for a big three points.
Game six: Everton 0-0 Arsenal (05/04/25)
Everton were hugely-improved under David Moyes, and the Toffees continued to surge up the Premier League table with a point against Arsenal. The Gunners severely lacked attacking prowess in the goalless draw at Goodison Park.
Game seven: Arsenal 1-0 Brentford (12/04/25)
Goals were proving a struggle once again for Arsenal when they took on Brentford at the Emirates Stadium, but Gabriel got on the scoresheet as Arteta's side avoided more dropped points with a 1-0 win. Bukayo Saka made the bench for this one.
Game eight:Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal (20/04/25)
Arsenal eased their way to a 2-0 win away to Ipswich Town, with Nwaneri scoring before his second-half replacement, Saka, scored on his return to action.
Game nine: Arsenal 3-2 Crystal Palace (27/05/25)
Back in the starting XI, Saka scored twice as Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 3-2. The Gunners suffered a scare when the visitors came from 2-0 down to make it 2-2 after half-time, but Odegaard scored the winner in the 74th minute to secure the win
Game 10: Arsenal 0-0 Bournemouth (04/05/25)
Bournemouth are one of the high-flyers in the Premier League this season, and they proved a tough test for Arsenal, holding them to a 0-0 draw at a crucial stage of the campaign.
Game 11: Liverpool 2-2 Arsenal (11/05/25)
The biggest game of Arsenal's season was playing Liverpool at Anfield, and the points were shared following a 2-2 draw. A Mohamed Salah brace saw the Reds make it 2-1 with 30 minutes to go following William Saliba's opener, but a late Trossard strike ensured that Liverpool didn't gain any points on Arteta's side.
Game 12: Arsenal 2-1 Newcastle United (18/05/25)
Following the draw at Anfield was another tough game against Newcastle, and after going behind early on, Saka and Gabriel Martinelli both scored as the Gunners won 2-1 in north London.
Game 13: Southampton 1-6 Arsenal (25/05/25)
On the final day of the Premier League season, Arsenal went out with a bang, winning 6-1 against already-relegated Southampton. Saka, Trossard, and Nwaneri all got two goals each as Arteta's side gave their goal difference a huge boost at the final hurdle.
The simulation predicted that in the final 13 games of the season, Arsenal would win nine and draw four, failing to lose a game until the end of the campaign. During the same period, Liverpool drew four and lost once, but the swing wasn't enough to send the Gunners top of the Premier League.
Liverpool ended the season with 86 points, two more than Arsenal in second. The Reds drew against Man City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham while losing 1-0 to Chelsea, with the draw at Anfield proving to be a huge result in the title race. Arsenal did end the season with the best defence and the most clean sheets, but apart from their battering of Southampton on the final day, goals did prove a slight issue, with Arteta's side scoring one or fewer on four occasions.
